new series [home cooked]

Wednesday, August 31, 2011 Comments

Even though I’m horrible in the kitchen, I love eating. I wish I had the time and skill to cook wonderful meals everyday but with our lifestyle it’s almost impossible. We mainly eat light during the week, something quick, and on the weekend is when we (ok not me at all times, but Billy, my other half) has the time to dedicate to putting together a nice meal for the both of us, where we sit down together and enjoy a home cooked meal. He is such an amazing cook that I feel that I’ve been selfish and keeping him all to myself all these years is unfair.

So….I will be introducing a new series starting tomorrow on what Billy (and sometimes I) make called home cooked.

Beware vegetarians and vegans, we are meat eaters!! We try our hardest to buy organic and local. Our ingredients usually come from natural food markets, farmers markets and the famous Wholefoods. The ingredients and directions should be followed loosely and remember that our way isn’t the only way!

The weekend of Hurricane Irene. The scare throughout the entire northeast cost was pretty unreal. New York City pretty much closed down. The MTA halted at 12PM Saturday, many businesses where closed and everyone bunkered in and awaited the storm. Billy and I hung out in our neighborhood, staying close to home, after helping my brother move some stuff into his brand new apartment before the crazy weather moved in. We ate good food and chilled out. On Sunday, we woke up excited to see what the storm had done only to realize, gratefully, that there wasn’t much damage where we are. We got on our bikes to ride around the city. It was amazing how empty the streets are without MTA buses.

Hope everyone was safe!!

So it’s Friday and the weekend is here. It’s funny how the weekend is so precious when you work a Monday – Friday job. Everyday should be the weekend, and we should work when we needed to and having money to pay rent or to eat wasn’t an issue. What ifs …

The blanket I use as a rug (above) is my favorite and was only $20. I think we got it upstate. The weekend was filled with walking around in the city, family dinner, laughter and of course relaxing. We need to figure out what the next steps we need to take in order to live like the weekend all the time!!

I had fun this weekend. We went for a long bike ride downtown along the west side highway to Pier 40, met some friends and went kayaking. We played tag in the water. Raced to catch each other in our kayaks. I didn’t bring my camera because I knew I was going to get wet. It was a fun filled weekend – late night walks, and lazy rainy lounging. I’m about ready for the new week, are you? What fun things did you do this past weekend?

I spent a few days quietly at home, a bit rainy and a bit sunny. Found a new Chinese restaurant, Columbia Cottage, the food was pretty good but definitely way more pricier then Chinatown (forgot my camera so no photos). Besides eating, watching movies and trying to figure out my life, I was able to do some drawing and went through some old magazines before recycling them. Cut out some color swatches to have around. Beginning to find inspiration once again.

You can find out more about each image by clicking on them. Have a productive week :)

I’m afraid it’s been an extremely long time since I’ve been on here. I’m horrible at keeping up with things. I hope you are enjoying life and this wonderful summer so far. We just got back from camping upstate in the Catskills. I love it there. We ended up being the only ones at the camp ground because it was during the week before the holiday weekend. It was awesome! Besides that, life has been busy. I’ve been working on a website for my friend and her colleagues, so that took up much of my time. It was a little intense but it’s coming along and I just have two main features left to work on until completion.

If you want to see some fun images check out my tumblr.

I’ll be back with more creative stuff! In the meantime, enjoy the bbqs and the beach.

Have you had time to follow all the people you’re interested in? Well, if you’re that interesting person, have you had time to keep up with all the different social networks that are out there? It seems like it’s never ending. There’s always something else or something new and better. I had to take a step back, try to understand what kind of person I am with socializing on the internet and realize what I really had time for.

So to keep it simple, I’ve created a tumblr called stuffeng. I’m more of a visual person, I need more then 140 characters. I also can’t stand linking to an image. My tumblr will be filled with ramblings and daily snapshots of my everyday life (an expanded version of my daily bites). If you’re interested in that, you can follow me there. If you have a tumblr, post in the comments so I can see yours :)

shop [new card]

Hey folks. In the spirit of spring and the soon to be occasion, Mother’s Day, I’ve designed a new card in my favorite style, art nouveau. Like last year, I went for the more hands on approach to the design. I sketched it out with pencil, went over with a pen and then I added color with gouache. If you follow me on twitter you might have seen the in progress photos but if you missed them here they are: sketch, inking, and inked. So here’s how it turned out. It’s in the shop for $3.00.
