I finally did it

What you see there is my very first silk screen test. I actually gave it a go over the weekend and it wasn’t that bad. I used Speedball’s Photo Emulsion kit and I just followed the instructions. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, especially since I’m only doing one color prints. I so guessed on the timing of the exposure. I gave it 30 minutes under a 65 watt flood light (I couldn’t find a 125 watt flood light (as the instructions suggests) anywhere. So I just had to make do with what I had. One thing, next time I’ll probably expose a tad bid longer when I have a fine line drawing. The actual printing can get a little messy.

Oh this is so cool, the possibilities are endless.

custom cards

I can’t believe that it’s Thursday already. Where did the week go? Oh yeah, I was working my ass off helping my boss set up a new store in Long Island (the art store I work for is opening up a new location). My arms were a bit muscular for a skinny girl like me but now I think they’ve doubled and it’s making me self conscious :) Lots of lifting and putting things together. Anyways…

I forgot to mention that last week I finished up a wholesale order. Deb from Peoria, Illinois had requested some custom cards. She wanted my Umbel card set in Chocolate Brown and my Electrical Tower notebook cover as a card set instead. I liked how they turned out. The Electrical Tower cards came out really nice. I might include them in my colors in my next update.

Image above didn’t come out so good but you get the idea.

I love getting custom requests with the designs that I have so if anyone wants something a little different just ask and I’ll see what I can do. Have a great day.

just some stuff

I’ve been busy this week, therefore my absence here. Sorry! So much is going on all at once. I hope to share with you all in the future. For now, I just wanted to share with you some photos I took over the week.

Here’s one I captured last weekend in Flushing, Queens while the sun was setting. It made a plain new building glow in pinkness.

I’ve also been busy working on a wholesale order for the UK. I actually just mailed it earlier today. I hope it gets there in one piece.

MF and I spent some time at the Queens Botanical Garden today. Not much picture taking for me, just a simple stroll around the park and a nice seat to relax in while watching the little kids playing in and around the fountain.

New items!

I’ll be adding some new goodies to the shop tomorrow. These two below along with the lino print ones I’ve mentioned earlier.

I’m participating in another virtual market over at Poppytalk Handmade. This time around it’s all about paper. So check out all the great things there and come by my table.

Clearance Sale

I’m doing some spring cleaning and marking a few items at 50% off. You can check them out here.

There’s so much more cleaning and organizing to do. Along with that I’m trying to realize the next steps to take within my life and along with that Jengs Shop.
Have a great weekend!

happy friday

My whole day was spent indoors because of the rain and all I did was work, Jengs Shop work. It felt like ages since I last had time. Anyways I worked on a new linoleum print. First time for simple literals and not just pretty visuals. I guess a little out of my norm but it’s different and bold and I love hand printing. You can never reproduce the line and ink quality a lino print creates. Each one, a little different and unique.

Keep your eye out for these bad boys! I hope to have them in the shop some time next week.

a greener side to things

Last week I had a wholesale inquiry and they asked about the recycled content in my paper products. Shamefully, I never really thought anything of it. I mean, I recycle my own waste/goods at home but I never thought to only sell products made of recycled materials. What the hell was I thinking? All I do is produce paper goods! Well, I had no numbers to throw out to answer their question, so I had to research what I’ve been using. I searched online (where I buy some of my materials) and looked at every packaging I had. For the most part, I was very very pleased to know that most of my materials are recycled, either contains 30% post-consumer content, 100% recycled or contained both. I guess, luckily, it was all subconsciously done. I wish I was more aware of it back then, for myself and as a designer of paper goods. Unfortunately, there was one item of mine that wasn’t recycled in any way, my white envelopes, after I use up all that I have I don’t think I’ll be buying those anymore.

I hope that those who work a lot with paper will keep this in consideration the next time paper materials need to be purchased. I definitely will! So here’s to a more conscious greener me. Have a wonderful week! I’ll have a couple of finds later on in the week.

hello friday + terrain

I am so glad that it’s finally Friday. Not too much has been going on here in Jengs world this past week, just doing what I do best (keeping busy) and of course hoping for better weather. This entire weekend will be cloudy, rainy and a bit chilly :(

On another note, here’s some Jengs Shop news that brightened up my day. It all started here: I’ve been an avid reader of Oh Joy! (written by Joy from Oh Joy! Studios & Nantaka Joy - paper & pattern) - I love her stuff! Anyways, when I found out that she was going to Pennsylvania to visit the new Terrain I got super excited. I was planning on going in 2 weeks to scope it out and to take some pictures. I was really really curious to see what it was going to be like.

You ask why? Well, way back when (I think around Thanksgiving time) a buyer from Terrain contacted me and was interested in wholesale. She had found me through Etsy :) When it all happened I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t want to believe it. I didn’t want to think anything of it, I guess I was shielding myself in case nothing would come out of it. When I was on vacation in February, they contacted me out of no where and placed an order. I was SOOOO very thrilled!! I walked around with a smile on my face for days, I really mean it! Days! :) It was so hard for me not to say a word of it here. My stuff was going to be a part of a new concept from Urban Outfitters Inc. Wow! I just couldn’t say anything until I saw it for myself and had actual proof that it was there. But since I still haven’t had time to go (still planning on it though) I was fortunate enough to find my goodies amongst Joy’s photos of Terrain. Take a look! Such wonderful things to see and everything so nicely situated! Here’s the one with my 3 notebooks (bottom left) :)

Photo from Joy

Thanks Joy for getting there before me and taking wonderful photos of the place :) Just makes me want to go even more!

Have a great weekend everyone!

hello monday

The weekend has passed (too quickly as usual). I hope everyone’s weekend was good! On Sunday we went to my cousins wedding in New Jersey and ate a lot. mmm cocktail hour was full of yummy foods :) Weddings are always fun. I caught the bouquet by the way … hmm … and MF caught the garter thingy … hmm … I think it was all a set up, what do you think that means? Anyways, it was all in good fun!

I also was able to work on some websites. One was just updating and one was totally new and will be up soon. I’ll post here when it’s all finished and up.

Here’s a new card I also added to the shop today.

Have a great week!

And thanks to those who commented on my product shots :)
