We took a drive out to Centralia, PA which is an abandoned town because of a mine fire burning since 1962. It was amazing that it’s still burning. We kicked over a half buried rock and smoke was pouring from underneath. All homes were demolished at some point because we didn’t see any structures, just traces of the town like parts of the sidewalk and driveways leading to nothing where you knew once stood someones home. It was sad and completely abandoned. Billy flip videoed the whole area while I took photos. He made me pose for the last shot up there.

Then we drove south, stopping at any thrift shop we saw, to Reading, PA to realize that there wasn’t much there either. It took use exactly 12 hours, we left the house at 8:40 and got back at 8:40. Billy also found a fireworks warehouse in a small town in PA and of course since it’s illegal here in NYC, he had to pick some up. He’s actually out in the park lighting them as I write, I can hear them going off. It was an awesome day.

Hey. We were away in Florida from last Wednesday night visiting my parents. So it’s been like a very long weekend for us, and that’s what a vacation is right? Anyway, we had a great time, as usual, we ate a lot, went swimming a lot, read a lot, and slept a lot. There really isn’t much to do where my parents live, but that. I’m glad to be back home, a little sunned and very relaxed. I’ll post some Florida photos in a few days.

It was a total work weekend. I finished up the website I’ve been laboring over and we’ll see if their are things that need fine tuning. It’s not live but I will definitely announce when it’s up. For doing fun stuff, well, I got to take a late night walk through the park on Saturday and was able to read a bit outside on Sunday. Billy worked on his project of creating a base for our theater chairs.

We are taking a little vacation to see my parents in Florida. It’ll be relaxing, swimming by the pool, going to the beach and eating good food. Speaking of good food, I’ll have another home cooked post on Thursday.

A weekend of dinner with friends and some website (not mine) work. Despina and Greg, along with their genius three year old James, came over and we all got to hang out. James was super sweet. Billy made his awesome spaghetti and meatballs. As usual, we ate too much. The sky looked amazing that night, the moon was glowing. Well anyway, are proud now owners of a hoosier cabinet, purchased at a great deal from Housing Works on 17th st. Billy always finds the good stuff.

It was a fun filled weekend. Reading on the grass in the park. A walk through the city. A little venture to Queens to see my parents. All in all, a very nice weekend. Back at work today. Hope everyone enjoyed their labor day weekend.

The weekend of Hurricane Irene. The scare throughout the entire northeast cost was pretty unreal. New York City pretty much closed down. The MTA halted at 12PM Saturday, many businesses where closed and everyone bunkered in and awaited the storm. Billy and I hung out in our neighborhood, staying close to home, after helping my brother move some stuff into his brand new apartment before the crazy weather moved in. We ate good food and chilled out. On Sunday, we woke up excited to see what the storm had done only to realize, gratefully, that there wasn’t much damage where we are. We got on our bikes to ride around the city. It was amazing how empty the streets are without MTA buses.

The blanket I use as a rug (above) is my favorite and was only $20. I think we got it upstate. The weekend was filled with walking around in the city, family dinner, laughter and of course relaxing. We need to figure out what the next steps we need to take in order to live like the weekend all the time!!

I had fun this weekend. We went for a long bike ride downtown along the west side highway to Pier 40, met some friends and went kayaking. We played tag in the water. Raced to catch each other in our kayaks. I didn’t bring my camera because I knew I was going to get wet. It was a fun filled weekend – late night walks, and lazy rainy lounging. I’m about ready for the new week, are you? What fun things did you do this past weekend?

I spent a few days quietly at home, a bit rainy and a bit sunny. Found a new Chinese restaurant, Columbia Cottage, the food was pretty good but definitely way more pricier then Chinatown (forgot my camera so no photos). Besides eating, watching movies and trying to figure out my life, I was able to do some drawing and went through some old magazines before recycling them. Cut out some color swatches to have around. Beginning to find inspiration once again.

So much and so little has happened since I’ve been on here. I never wanted to be away for so long but until recently I’ve felt like my life has been on hold. Here’s the story … remember when I mentioned that I was moving? … well, it never happened! haha I had started packing (boxes filled half my living room) and we were suppose to meet the landlord but then he canceled so … we had to arrange another time and then the crazy snow had happened and the appliances never showed (so they said). Finally finally finally we got the keys late Saturday. phew – we almost started believing that it would never happen. Sunday came and went, we did a lot of patching and caulking every little hole (preventing yucky bugs from entering) – then it’ll be time for painting.

Because we are such perfectionists we are making this place almost perfect because it is in no way as solid as our current place … a trade off – it’s larger and we will be in a much better and convenient location. So so so exciting!! Can’t wait to be in there already!
