a new year for new beginnings

Friday, January 27, 2012 No Comments

First off, Happy New Year! and also Happy Chinese New Year! I took a little hiatus from blogging and making. I’m on the constant search for something new and making/creating isn’t one of them at the moment. I don’t know what it is. A lot has happened, Thanksgiving went by, then Christmas, then New Years and on top of all that, I’ve been promoted at my job to be manager at a new store. So yeah, a lot is going on in life and in my mind. I’ve been loosing sleep probably from all the anxiety and excitement of my new position so I don’t really know what’s in store for Jengs Shop.

But somehow in the middle of all the madness, Billy and I have managed to create something new. With his knack for finding great antique objects and my knowledge of product photography and selling goods on etsy, a new store Billy Bob Finds is born. Billy is constantly in search for old things around the city and sometimes it’s a bit too much for our little apartment so we will be sharing our finds by putting it up for sale. Keep checking back for some great finds.

Oh yeah, and remember that website I was building for some friends? Anyway, it’s live. Check it out here.

So this roll was a bit of a disaster. Above are the best from this round. The roll didn’t wind tight enough inside the camera when I started so every time I had to forward the film it would get fatter making it harder to wind. Sometimes I had to open the back and push the film forward by hand. I was hesitant at first to develop, thinking it was completely ruined but everyone kept telling me it would be ok. A lot of the shots turned out dark because we were exploring the wooded areas of Central Park.

If you didn’t see the first round click here.

So here are my photos from my very first roll of film using a borrowed Holga 120. I got them developed at the Lomo store on 8th st. It was fun using a film camera again and having no clue what each shot was going to turn out like made picture taking exciting.

I won’t have a my weekend post for you today since my weekend was spent not taking pictures … but I did finally take the time to go through photos I took while we were down in Florida last week. We packed super light so I only had my little point and shoot, along with my iphone camera (the last 4 photos). I may have descriptions to each photo if you click on them over on my flickr page.

Hey. We were away in Florida from last Wednesday night visiting my parents. So it’s been like a very long weekend for us, and that’s what a vacation is right? Anyway, we had a great time, as usual, we ate a lot, went swimming a lot, read a lot, and slept a lot. There really isn’t much to do where my parents live, but that. I’m glad to be back home, a little sunned and very relaxed. I’ll post some Florida photos in a few days.

It was a total work weekend. I finished up the website I’ve been laboring over and we’ll see if their are things that need fine tuning. It’s not live but I will definitely announce when it’s up. For doing fun stuff, well, I got to take a late night walk through the park on Saturday and was able to read a bit outside on Sunday. Billy worked on his project of creating a base for our theater chairs.

We are taking a little vacation to see my parents in Florida. It’ll be relaxing, swimming by the pool, going to the beach and eating good food. Speaking of good food, I’ll have another home cooked post on Thursday.

A weekend of dinner with friends and some website (not mine) work. Despina and Greg, along with their genius three year old James, came over and we all got to hang out. James was super sweet. Billy made his awesome spaghetti and meatballs. As usual, we ate too much. The sky looked amazing that night, the moon was glowing. Well anyway, are proud now owners of a hoosier cabinet, purchased at a great deal from Housing Works on 17th st. Billy always finds the good stuff.

It was a fun filled weekend. Reading on the grass in the park. A walk through the city. A little venture to Queens to see my parents. All in all, a very nice weekend. Back at work today. Hope everyone enjoyed their labor day weekend.

The weekend of Hurricane Irene. The scare throughout the entire northeast cost was pretty unreal. New York City pretty much closed down. The MTA halted at 12PM Saturday, many businesses where closed and everyone bunkered in and awaited the storm. Billy and I hung out in our neighborhood, staying close to home, after helping my brother move some stuff into his brand new apartment before the crazy weather moved in. We ate good food and chilled out. On Sunday, we woke up excited to see what the storm had done only to realize, gratefully, that there wasn’t much damage where we are. We got on our bikes to ride around the city. It was amazing how empty the streets are without MTA buses.

Hope everyone was safe!!
