happy friday

I had the week off from work and it was pretty productive and sort of … not so productive. At the beginning of the week I was moving furniture around, setting up a Malm dresser from Ikea, cleaning out bookshelves, tossing things out and made a pile of clothes to donate. Then the internet went down. The earliest Time Warner can come by is Monday the 15th – (11 days away) now that’s crazy!! Then tried to upgrade my blog and it crashed and then I had to reinstall everything and reformat the template I was working off of … so that’s about it. You may notice some minor differences here on the blog.

I hope to have a peaceful weekend with some r&r with BB and some good eating!

psst … do you have this problem? You turn your computer on (say about 9am) to check your email and then one click leads to another and before you know it the whole afternoon is gone. I guess I need some lessons on time management, what are your thoughts?

Illustration Friday: multiple

telephones

Sitting here in my hotel room and I notice that there were two telephones here. Thinking about telephones and how many we all have, do any of us have only one? No, we have multiples, whether it be cell phones or regular land lines we never just have one. If I’m wrong let me know.

I started just with one little sketch, grouped them together in photoshop and it’s turning out to be a work in progress for a nice pattern series I’ve been wanting to trying.

Illustration Friday: plain

pretty plant by jennifer eng

My submission for Illustration Friday – “I’m a plain plant but someone thinks I’m pretty.” It was originally done with pen and paper. After finishing this little piece, I realized that I never really work with the color purple. Sort of ironic, considering the topic, because it’s a very uncommon color in my world. Thanks for peeking.

illustration friday grow jennifer eng

Above is my illustration for Illustration Friday. I drew it out using a pen, took a shot of it (no scanner because I’m not home, on vacation), and digitally colored it. It’s a plant my mom has growing in her yard. I hope you enjoy it.

It’s a cloudy day here in Florida. No swimming for us today =( Hopefully it’ll be a nice one tomorrow because we’ll be leaving here on Saturday. I can’t believe a week has gone by, well almost. Soon we’ll be home…back to NY…back to our normal lives…back to the hustle and bustle of our daily routines.

friday doodle: bird feeder

I’ve been reading a collection of Isaac Bashevis Singer’s short stories from Old Love. His stories are great by the way. Well, here’s todays friday doodle, a little illustration doodle from a scene from the story “The Psychic Journey”. The one scene just reminded me of the things I use to do. When I was young my mom use to take us, my sister, brother and I, to Central Park and we would feed the birds. It was just so much fun. It’s amazing what simple joys we encountered when we were young. What happened? Why don’t I do that now?

behind on my doodles

I’ve been bad. I haven’t been doing my friday doodles. I do have excuses though. Last week I was busy because of the show and today I left the house early to go to the museum with my friend, Despina. So even though I didn’t get much actual work done, I did spend the day trying to find, decide and research what steps to take next…and to hang out with my friend of course.

I’ve been toying with the idea of designing my own patterns for the book covers of my hand bound books. So instead of buying fancy paper or just plain paper, I can create my own. I’ll work more on it this weekend and see how it turns out.

I’ll leave you with this for now…

An untitled watercolor on paper I did a while ago.

friday doodle: hairy waters

August 31st, 2007 jenn Posted in doodles, shop news No Comments »

I had a very late start today. Besides waking up with an extremely bad headache, I had to work on a website. So everything that I had planned to do for myself today has been pushed all the way to the evening. The daylight quickly reseeds along with my anxiety of the day. ( thank god my headache is gone :) )

Oh, my computer is up and running again. Yay!! It’s faster than ever. faster = more time = more work = more productivity = me more happy :) It took a while for me to install all my programs again and to download all the drivers I needed for my scanner and printer, but it is now all taken of and I’m free (from being a burden to my brother) and I’m happy (not having to use someones computer)

Here’s a friday doodle for you. This one’s called Hairy Waters. (don’t get yourself all caught up in it!)

friday doodle: kite march

August 24th, 2007 jenn Posted in doodles, shop news No Comments »

Here’s a friday doodle. I started this one with no real inspiration or thought behind it. It is just a true doodle. Isn’t that what doodles are? Mindless drawings? Well, after my final touches, I think I’d want to create a full drawing and call it Kite March. Who doesn’t like kites? Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always wanted to fly a kite. To this day I still haven’t tried it. But I will. I guess there is always this wonderful feeling when you see a kite up in the air, almost like it’s an extension of yourself, and the kite, against the light blue sky, it just glides gracefully and freely.

friday doodle: my fly pal

August 17th, 2007 jenn Posted in doodles No Comments »

Here’s my friday doodle, an excercise I created for myself (see past post). It wasn’t during my first cup of coffee, but my second.

Anyways, this doodle was inspired by the gigantic flys at my job. I don’t know why but they are huge. It’s pretty disgusting when you think about it. And they fly really really slow, maybe because their so fat that their little wings can’t handle their weight.
